circa 1940
Image shows a man on a bulldozer pushing stumps and root wads from a field into windrows. Colony farmstead buildings are visible in background. The photo illustrates the method to best clear the land with little removal of the soil. The field beyond the dozer shows that trees have been previously cut and removed, leaving high stumps. By pushing on these high stumps, the dozer can push them over, tipping up just the root ball which can be removed as shown without removing much of the surrounding soil.
